Australian Water Reduction Targets

Over the past six years, water efficiency programs in plants across CCA have produced cumulative water savings of around 13%. In 2007, CCA Australia has committed to reducing the amount of water used in production by a further 1% to achieve a national target of 1.48L/FBL. (litres per finished beverage litre)

Note - CCA has modified its calculation process for production figures to conform with The Coca-Cola Company global environmental reporting standards. Our previously reported 2006 figure was 1.36L/FBL, which is equivalent to 1.50 L/FBL under the new calculations.

CCA Australia has reduced water in production through a series of projects at each of its sites. State-based projects were identified to eliminate leaks and seek innovative solutions to improve efficiency.  One example of this is that we are changing from using water on the lines to stop bottles and cans from sticking, to using a synthetic lubricant. Another is seen in a commitment to harvest rainwater at our new facilities in NSW at Northmead and Eastern Creek. The new facilities are due for completion over the next few years.

CCA has been awarded for its state-based water savings programs.

NSW -  Sydney Water Every Drop Counts: Winner Sustainable Business Award 2005
Sydney Water Every Drop Counts: Finalist Innovation Category (for dry lubrication on its filling lines) 2006

QLD -  QLD Environment Protection Agency Sustainable Industry Awards: Finalist in Industrial Eco-Efficiency Category 2006

VIC -  save!water awards 2005 - Finalist

WA -  Department of Water WA - Water Awards 2006 - Highly commended for Waterwise Business, Finalist in three categories; Waterwise Business, Water Conservation/Efficiency and Water Recycling.

CCA's Northmead facility in NSW Australia has recently undertaken a water audit, resulting in saving the equivalent of 84 Olympic swimming pools every year.  To read more about the audit undertaken in partnership with Sydney Water please Click Here.
